Alexander St Claire Passes Away

San Luis, Colorado – Alexander St Claire long time resident of  San Luis, Colorado passed away on October 6, 1889 according to the San Luis Valley Courier.  Mr. St. Claire was born in 1827 in Harpers Ferry.  Harpers Ferry is in Jefferson County in the state of West Virginia. The article states that Alexander moved to San Luis in 1859 and opened up a hotel.  Alexander was a blacksmith by trade and resumed his trade until his death.

married to Soledad St Clair age 27 with children Joseph age 3, Mary age 1 and a Joseph Kerr age 32 living with the family.

1885 Colorado State Census, age 59 (Costilla County District 1) working as a Blacksmith, born in Pennsylvania as were his mother and father.  Married to Soledad St Clair who was born in New Mexico.  They had three children Joseph St Clair, Mary L St Clair and Soledad St Clair all born in Colorado.
