San Luis resident Gabriel Jose Medina, 89, passed away December 19, 2016. Gabriel was born on July 7, 1927 in San Francisco, CO in Costilla County, the son of Carlos Medina and Sofia Taylor Medina. Gabriel worked in farming and ranching most of his life. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who enjoyed gardening, planting flowers and fishing.

Gabriel is survived by his wife Bertha O. Medina of San Luis, CO; daughter Patricia (Hal) Barnett of Fountain, CO; sons Amos (Lidia) Medina of Aurora, CO; Ernest (Zolanda) Medina of Falcon, CO and Randy (Lisa) Medina of Littleton, CO; sisters Josephina Maestas of San Pablo, CO; Mena (Ray) Martinez of Colorado Springs, CO; Adaline (Luis) Martinez of Thornton, CO and Elsie Samora of Thornton, CO and brothers Al (Pressie) Medina of Estrella, CO and Rudy (Mabel) Medina of Colorado Springs, CO; 7 grandchildren: Albert, Pamela, Jason, Brandon, Carlos, Noah and Celena Medina, as well as 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Gabriel was preceded in death by his parents Carlos and Sofia Medina, sons Albert and Karl Medina; brothers Hubert, Carlos and Antonio Medina; and sisters Navor Mondragon and Louisa Espinoza.

Cremation was selected. A Rosary will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church in San Luis.

The care of arrangements has been trusted to Romero Funeral Home of San Luis.
